IF YOUR GOYA HAS BEEN REJECTED

Before the information age and before digital technologies became available, authenticating was far more difficult than it is today. In the case of some painters the proportion of wrong authentications exceeded 50 percent.

What it means is that authentic paintings were also erroneously rejected.

The situation has improved enormously now that so much technology is assisting art historians in their authentication work.

Mistakes are still made however, and if the painting or drawing you believe to be by Goya has been rejected, we will reopen the case and fully re-examine it.
